A California artist, Tom has painted abstract creations for many years. Marlatt creates imaginative compositions using vibrant color schemes, a variety of angular shapes, and exciting free flowing abstract forms. He applies up to ten layers of oil paint to the canvas before a painting is completed. Each painting is unique. And, he likes to paint large. Therefore, his paintings define the space in which they are exhibited. As with many abstract artist, he prefers not naming his compositions rather leaving it to the viewer to interpret their own emotional reaction to the painting. His work has been exhibited in major galleries in the United States and throughout the world. The image below is of his exhibition at the successful October 2016 SLOPOKE contemporary and western art event in Pismo Beach, California. Five of his pieces are owned by Stanford University and are on continuous display in the Hoover Memorial building.
