Regina Lyubovnaya (Lyubov) is an American artist born in Moscow, Russia who immigrated to the USA in 1989. She studied at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, receiving her Bachelor in Fine Art and Bachelor in Art History in1995, Subsequently, she earned a Bachelor in Illustration in 1998 from the Art Center of Design,Los Angeles. She continued her immersion in fine art at the Florence Academy of Art, Italy (1999-2000) and the Student League of NY, NY (2000-2001). From 1999 to the present day, she studies with the distinguished American artist: David Leffel whose style and subject matter she clearly admires. David Leffel is a painter in the style of early Dutch and Flemish painters such as Vermeer and Rembrandt. His philosophy of painting is to seek to understand the process of painting in the way a theoretical physicist seeks to understand the universe. Regina Lyubovnaya brings a resounding clarity to her works that remind one of the early Dutch masters.....Her purposeful yet sparing use of natural light magically reveals intimate secrets about the individuals and objects she paints....It is as if light is another color on her rich palette, used to engage the viewer with the important elements of each work. Her paintings are not so much about the objects in the still life composition as they are about what the interplay of light reveals to us about our sense of space and time and the beauty of stillness and quietude.
